With the resignation of Michael Hackney from the Eastland City Commission, the city charter states that it must go to special election. In recent days, citizens and community leaders have asked the question, “Who will fill the seat?” Bobby Blackwell is the second candidate to go to social media to announce his candidacy for city commission. On August 1, 2026, Blackwell wrote on his social media:
“For the last 24 years, Eastland has been my home. During that time, I have been blessed to serve this community in many ways. For 15 years, I served Eastland ISD as a teacher/coach, where I spent my days helping students learn how to solve problems, make better decisions, and become productive members of our community. Over the course of my 26 year career in education, I learned that leadership begins with listening, respect and accountability.
Today, I continue serving our area as a business leader and insurance agent with Texas Farm Bureau. My commitment to Eastland has also extended beyond my professional career through involvement in civic organizations such as the Lions Club and service as a board member for the Chamber of Commerce. These experiences have given me a deep appreciation for the people of Eastland and the opportunities and challenges our community faces.
I am running for Eastland City Commission because our city deserves leadership defined by character, integrity, honesty and professionalism. I believe our commission meetings should reflect the respect and decorum that the citizens of Eastland expect and deserve. If elected I will work to improve our local infrastructure, encourage responsible growth, and maintain strong partnerships with our law enforcement, fire, and emergency services. I also believe the cornerstone of a city commissioner is to support the city, its employees, and city management and remove the road blocks that will allow them to ‘get their job done for the city of Eastland.’
I believe Eastland’s greatest days are still ahead, and together we can build a future that honors our past while embracing new opportunities.
I am not running to be a politician; I am running to serve my neighbors and give back to the community that has given so much to me and my family.

The Eastland City Commission is set to order the election on August 5, 2026, at noon. All prospective candidates will be able to file for their name to appear on the ballot this November starting at 1 PM on August 5th. This special election will be on the ballot on November 3, 2026.
